Fave movies

I like watching movies except slasher/horror/thriller films. I would only watch thriller or suspense if I'm with other people and they chose to watch the movie. I don't like bloods and ghosts. I would never suggest it whenever we are choosing what to watch, but it depends on the situation. Last year, we decided to watch MMFF on January 1. Back then, we haven't discovered yet that we can buy online tickets, so we stand in line for a long time because there's so many people! The film that we want to watch, which is Firefly, already started while we were on a long long queue, so I suggested that we should watch Mallari instead. I never expected it to be ghosts/supernatural and I thought it would just be thriller and murders, so I didn't enjoy it that much. I don't like jumpscares. I can tolerate watching slasher films more -- I was able to finish Pearl (2022) last year when it was put on Netflix. What I wasn't able to do is to watch it in one go, of course, I needed time to process it, and I retched on the ending, it was so gore. I don't even know why I watched it, maybe because of Tiktok, I've been seeing lots of Pearl contents and sound "PLEASE! I'M A STAAAAAAAR!" so I decided to watch it. I didn't regret it, I just cannot look at gory scenes. I cannot recommend it to anyone as well. But if you like gory films, you may like it. Moreover, I don't like supernatural/demons/ghosts more, so those films are on the most bottom of the list, second bottom is gory films.

Now, I would like to talk about my favorite movies! In no particular order:

  • The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet - I like the characters, the dialogues, and the flow of the story. Helena Bonham Carter really is a mother of genius children. (Enola Holmes reference) Speaking of Enola Holmes, it's one of the Netflix movies that I actually like, it is unique to break the fourth wall, and I think that movie fixed my attention span.
  • Silver Linings Playbook - It's a good film. It showed how hard to have a mental illness and I think it is portrayed well. I just watched it because I like Jennifer Lawrence. I have a copy of this book but I haven't read it yet.
  • Little Miss Sunshine - I watched it while travelling to Nueva Ecija with my family to visit my cousin and her newborn baby. It's a very good choice to watch while on a trip, as the characters are on a trip as well. I like the family dynamics, the cinematography, and the story overall. At first I didn't like the father, but his character developed by the end of the film.
  • Stardust - It's so magical! When I first watched it, it feels like I'm on a good dream. I liked the characters and how they fell in love. I also like the world building and how the scenes flow. I could watch it over and over again. I'm just disappointed that the writer is a genius (I liked Coraline as well) but is a subpar human. It's disappointing to see creative minds being evil.
  • Loving Vincent - I like the story, and I'm fascinated when I discovered that they painted all the frames one by one. It made my heart ache, I just feel so bad at the character.
  • La La Land - I just like to have a good cry. I'm just sad that it is removed on Netflix. I watched it maybe more than 5 times. The 'what-if' scene in the end broke my heart, but I'll watch it again and again regardless. What a masterpiece.
  • Emma (2020) - a period drama that is well-executed. I like the colors - it look like pastel, the humor, the pairings, the attires! I've watched Clueless first and I thought, it's the same plot. Turns out, it is the same plot, Clueless is a loose adaptation of Emma. I have a copy of the book as well, but I haven't read it yet, I think my brain will not process it well.
  • Everything Everywhere All At Once - a mind boggling film that I would definitely rewatch. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, so I would not actively recommend it, but I think it's a good film; it has complicated plot but executed very well. 10/10
  • Tuhog - Eugene Domingo is the GOAT. It's one of my top recommendations if you want to watch a Filipino film. We've watched this a long time ago but we still talk about it from time to time. I also still think about it from time to time.
  • Wonder - It is very well-crafted. I like how they showed different points of view. I watched it with my family and I was sobbing by the end of the film. I would definitely rewatch. It is a feel-good film.

That's it for today. Thank you for reading.

Regards,

Pauline
